Where to begin? Now that I’ve had a day to rest up from a truly fun and exhausting evening, I can report on our second race of the season.
Cliff and I were extremely amazed at the number of drivers who turned out to enjoy our modest track. Up until now we’ve had a somewhat small following of those who believe in what we are trying to accomplish – a place to race and affordable entertainment for a family in a county that doesn’t have much to offer in the way of entertainment. These mud racers, our friends and those who have come to watch, have helped us with this endeavor either by manual labor, attending the race or racing on our track and providing entertainment. It’s because of you that we’ve been able to keep this going into our fourth year. We are more thankful than we can express for your dedication, for your help, and for standing by us. With your continued support we can keep this going and have fun while doing it.
Now, on to some highlights from the race.
We had a huge turn-out of those wanting to race, and those wanting to see the races.
We had the pleasure of meeting some new drivers who drove quite a distance to try out our track. They brought with them their pride and joy – and I’m not talking about their wife and kids. The amount of work that goes into these vehicles is amazing and the trucks are quite a thing of beauty. You can see the pride on the faces of the owners, and they have every right to be proud.
Once the race got started the trucks let the residents in our neck of the woods know they were here. I was working the gate when a truck pulled up with three people in it. They said they lived three miles away and heard the “noise” and had to come and investigate. They were mildly surprised to say the least at what was going on and stayed to enjoy the races.
Since we are located on Hwy 90, the traffic on the road can see the races. We had several vehicles park in the bar ditch* and watch the races from there. Even DPS enjoyed a race or two from the roadway. I’m glad we could provide a measure of entertainment for them.
*For those of you who don’t know what a bar ditch is, it’s that area of road usually between the paved road and a fence line.
The kids had a blast participating in the foot race down the track. We even had a grudge match between two brothers who wanted to see who was fastest on foot, in the mud. Brother one lost a shoe to the hungry mud not far into the race and brother two was brought to his knees at the finish line. We’ve tried getting some of the “seasoned” people to participate in the mud run, but it’s hard on the walkers and wheel chairs.
I want to give a huge shout-out to Cody and Dude. Thanks so much for your help.
I also want to sincerely thank all those who stepped in to volunteer their time. We can’t thank you enough.
Our next race is May 11th. Hope to see you there.

The 2013 Season started this past Saturday and man what a turn-out we had. I admire those who braved the cold and came out to help us open the season. And boy oh boy was it cold. That hot chocolate and coffee sold out.
The Mudder Fudder’s ATV group put on an exhibition show for the spectators. Thanks guy and gals. I’m not sure who had more fun, the spectators or the riders.
We had Purple Haze II making its virgin run. Thanks David for picking our track to show her off.
Thanks again for making this race fun for all and a success.
